It’s a place where the hum of conversation blends with the subtle fragrances of spices that hint at the stories woven into each dish. Essence Of India’s menu offers a quiet celebration of Indian flavors shaped by tradition and heart. Here, you might find yourself drawn to dishes with deeply satisfying layers—rich, spiced, or gently aromatic—that feel both familiar and curiously new to a Highland palate. The experience is not about imposing extravagance but about moments of simple pleasure: the way a well-crafted curry can lift you; the satisfying warmth of a biryani that feels like nourishment for both body and spirit. These are meals made with care—in ways that resonate particularly well for travelers who’ve been on the road or adventurers needing a good, honest meal.
For many, Essence Of India becomes a restful stop where the focus is on comfort and connection rather than fuss—where you can bring your own bottle of wine and still enjoy the relaxed, convivial setting. Though modest and straightforward, it’s exactly that lack of pretense that gives it charm, grounding the experience in genuine, human moments rather than polished formality.
In a landscape that often feels wild and vast, this little corner of Ullapool offers a pause—an opportunity to nourish, reflect, and feel quietly restored. It’s a reminder that sometimes the best discoveries happen in unexpected places, where warmth and flavor meet in uncomplicated harmony.

We ordered a korma and a tikka masala. Service was 25 mins (cash only) and food was delicious! We were camping at the adjacent campsite and missed home comforts - this was better than home!

Reading the reviews annoyed me, they are cash only because they survive on tourism, card readers etc are high transaction fees, nothing wrong in cash only! I think people need to give more grace to small businesses especially in these hard times! Whilst on the NC500 we stopped here as everywhere else was busy and they just opened, we had 2 polite gentleman take care of our needs service was great, very attentive to our needs, very quick and efficient, great quality food, nice Wee Chocolate Mint for after and will come again on our next trip!????????????????????????

Best Indian within 200 miles, reasonably priced & while they don't sell alcohol you can take wine or whatever in with you. - having read the other reviews on here I just don't get it at all, I've eaten both in the restaurant & taken away, the food has always been great. Maybe if your highly demanding & don't like spices this isn't the place for you :)

After three days without a proper meal on our NC500 trip, this place was an absolute blessing. The food was tasty, filling, and perfect after our long hikes. We even packed some extra food for the road. Definitely recommend eating here!!

Food was incredible, recommend the chilli paneer starter. Lamb dansak & chicken tikka Pathia & naans also fantastic. Will hopefully be coming back soon!
